Confirmation Expectations
We will all pray for each other — pastors, parents, students, small group guides.
We will all respect each other. This includes thinking and speaking well of each other, contributing positively in class and small groups, being present in body and spirit, being on time.
Parents and students will get together at least weekly for “highs” and “lows” and for a family devotional.
Parents and students will strive to do all seven of the Christian faith practices: worship, study, invite, serve, encourage, give, pray.
Students will attend all class sessions and their class retreat (about a month before confirmation Sunday). What goes on in these sessions cannot be duplicated; nevertheless, those who are absent are expected to “make up” the session missed to the satisfaction of the pastor-instructor.
Students will be in their seats on time for all class sessions. We start lessons at 4:45 p.m. Small group guides will dismiss promptly at 6:00 p.m. Students will bring their Bibles, small catechisms and a pencil to class each week.
Service and fellowship events will be provided within the youth group. Students are expected to participate in the service and fellowship events of the youth group.
Students will turn in homework every week. The homework must be signed by a parent as having been completed to the parent’s satisfaction.
Students will complete and turn in 48 sermon notes over the two year period. Occasionally there may be “worship notes” to fill out that will be worth 2 sermon notes. The pastors expect that, over time, sermon notes will reveal an improvement in the student’s ability to listen, understand and apply the sermon to her/his life.
Students will worship faithfully, regularly and frequently with other members of the congregation of Lord of Love. Sitting in the sanctuary and playing games or reading books or magazines does not constitute participating in worship. Students are expected to participate in Sunday School.
Students will participate in service activities at Lord of Love, such as ushering, nursery, altar care, clean-up days, choir, liturgist, Vacation Bible School helper, etc. Students should have served 15 hours in such service activities by the end of the two and a half year confirmation program.
There will be no class sessions during Lent; however, students are expected to worship at the mid-week worship services. Students will usher at Advent and Lent midweek services.
If Omaha Public Schools cancels because of snow, we will not have confirmation.
